Fionán Mackessy has followed up being named on the Higher Education Hurling Championships Team of the Year by also being named on the football team. Mackessy, who is a member of the Kingdom's hurling panel, plays for MTU Kerry.

The Ardfert man was part of the MTU Kerry team which won hurling's second tier competition, the Ryan Cup, defeating Ulster University in the final. Last week, he was the only non-Fitzgibbon Cup player to be named on the Hurling Team of the Year.

He was also a member of the MTU Kerry team which reached the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup, losing out the eventual winners NUI Galway. On Monday, Mackessy was one of three Kerry players - along with David Clifford and Tony Brosnan - to be named on the Higher Education Championships Football Team of the Year.
