A great year for Meath ladies football continued on Sunday when Dunboyne denied Foxrock-Cabinteely a seventh conseutive Leinster club championship title.
Dunboyne defeated the Dublin champions 2-11 to 2-8 in Kinnegad. Fox-Cab had led by four points at the break but Dunboyne landed some killer blows in the second half, including 1-1 from Fiona O'Neill.
The Dunboyne captained lined out just seven months after giving birth to her first child Sadhbh.
"Do you know what, football has been a blessing in disguise," she told Jerome Quinn after the game.
"It's been the break that I needed on those tough days minding her - she's my first [child]. It's been incredible.
"Between football and her, it's been a whirlwind year. It's been brilliant just being able to get back out on the pitch.
"My first month, it was tough trying to get back in. I didn't know if I'd be playing first team football, let alone that I'd captain the team.
"Slowly, but surely, with a couple of weeks running, and gym work, I got back. I'm probably not where I want to be, but I'll take anything to be back out there with the girls.
"Some people maybe give up everything, give up sport, but to me, it's been a lifeline. It's so good for your mental health, just to get out and get a bit of exercise, coming down seeing all my friends. Then you're back home, and you're in better form when you see her after.
"There's no reason why when women have a baby that they have give up everything."
