Monaghan went into half-time in their division one encounter with the advantage on the scoreboard - they led 0-7 to 0-5 in Salthill. Though, they were at a disadvantage in terms of player numbers.
Shortly before half-time, Monaghan were reduced to 14 players when Fintan Kelly was sent-off by referee Barry Cassidy.
After being brought to the ground by the combination of two Galway players, Kelly stood up and then aimed a kick at Galway's Gary O'Connell.
Barry Cassidy showed little hesitation in dishing out the card.
Fintan Kelly cárta dearg! Raibh seo tuillte?
The correct decision? @Galway_GAA v @monaghangaa #AllianzLeagues #GAABEO pic.twitter.com/e807WdPKDy— Spórt TG4 (@SportTG4) March 11, 2018
It was a moment of baffling petulance from Kelly. Monaghan were playing well and two points up. His moment of madness handed the advantage back to Galway.
