Derry football suffered a blow yesterday when Fergal Doherty announced his retirement from inter-county football. The 33 year old midfielder cited work commitments and on-going injury troubles and he'll certainly be missed given his commitment to the Derry cause since his breakthrough back in 2001.
If there's one thing that Doherty brought to the Derry midfield it was physicality and his retirement is the perfect excuse for everyone to sit back and enjoy one of the most satisfying shoulders in recent GAA history.
It was 2006 and Donegal's Barry Dunnion is the unlucky man still feeling this hit when he wakes up in the morning.
So big Fergal retires from County duty. Good excuse to get this back out #BOOM @Doiregaa https://t.co/UMZzyHdeTF
