John Leonard has one of the more interesting books out this autumn. (Not the most interesting book out this autumn however.) It's called 'Dub Sub Confidential' and it's an account of what it's like to be Stephen Cluxton's understudy and live in the shadow of arguably the greatest goalkeeper in gaelic football history. Leonard didn't have much football to play so there was plenty of time for boozing and the book includes plenty of beer-sodden anecdotes.
Our favourite part of the book was his account of discovering that Stephen Cluxton drinks WKD Blue on nights out.
Here's the money graf:
Clucko was also the first man I ever saw drinking Blue WKDs. I was blown away on our first session together in the Sunnybank Hotel. Behind the bar was a case of Blue WKD chilling in some ice. Who the f**k drinks that shite, I thought to myself. I turned to see Clucko slugging one down.
WKD Blue. Only one man in the GAA could pull it off.
We here at Balls have been all over the Cluxton/WKD Blue beat for some time.
