Interviewed by RTÉ's Joanne Cantwell after the All-Ireland final loss to Dublin, Fitzmaurice said:
My term is up, I've three years done. A lot of us have a good bit of thinking and talking to do and we'll do that in time.
Taking over in the autumn of 2012, the Finuge man led Kerry to an All-Ireland semi-final in 2013, an All-Ireland title in 2014 and the All-Ireland final this year.
