Brian O'Driscoll put his considerable influence firmly behind a yes vote ahead of the upcoming marriage referendum. The former Ireland captain joined the growing ranks of well known personalities making public their support using #straightupforequality.
I'm certainly voting yes! #straightupforequality

As would be expected, the vast majority of responses saw O'Driscoll being lauded for making public for his stance. However, there was also a word of (somewhat jovial) caution from Donegal footballer Eamon McGee.
“@BrianODriscoll: I'm certainly voting yes! #straightupforequality” careful now
— Eamon Mc Gee (@EamonMcGee) March 13, 2015
McGee has been in the news recently after also declaring his support for a yes vote. He was subsequently met with quite a bit of criticism from some people who were less than pleased with a representative of the GAA making such a stand. The Donegal man addressed the criticism with his assertion that although he may have been met with criticism, the majority of the GAA community were on his side.
There’s no point lying about it: there’s certain aspects of GAA folk that are traditionalists, have Catholic viewpoints and are old school. They will view this with a bit of suspicion, this lifestyle. Maybe that’s 20-30% of them, 30% maximum. The majority of the GAA are coming on now to it.
We'll leave the final word in this to Brian Gillespie who had a cautionary word for McGee.
@EamonMcGee there'll not be a priest in the country who'll give you communion the weekend!
