We thought Dublin's unbeaten run was the only record broken on Sunday but as it turns out the match of the year so far also broke TG4's viewship record for the most watched programme in station's history.
642,000 people watched this year's league final, setting a new peak for viewership figures on TG4 and eclipsing the previously most-watched event, which was - you guessed it - last year's Allianz League final between the same pair. The day's showpiece garnered 37% of the available audience, while the Division Two final between Galway and Kildare brought in 354,000 viewers.
TG4's Sports Editor Rónán Ó Coisdealbha said:
We are all delighted with these all-time record viewing figures. It was a thrilling encounter and made for compelling viewing with the outcome in the balance till the very last kick.
The Irish language station has received huge praise for their coverage of the GAA and they are not resting on the laurels. Just as Kerry and Dublin are moving on from Sunday final, the wheel keeps on turning at TG4, and tonight they are streaming the Ulster U21 Football Championship final between Donegal and Derry live on their YouTube channel. A magnificient service for those interested in a bit of 'Monday Night Football.'
