We are indebted to Conor Ryan who sent us this clipping from a recent court report from the Tipp Star which documents the travails of a certain Thurles resident named Thomas Colville who on September 9th last year, after ten pints and a number of shots, found himself involved in a clash with a number of the town's parked cars. Mr Colville somehow located himself atop a row of the town's cars, "running along the roofs of a number of the cars, jumping up and down on the cars". One of the vehicles he confronted belonged to Lar Corbett, who runs a pub in the town, and the court report documents how Mr Colville had a go at the van's wing mirror and how Lar's business partner Kevin Coppinger walked out on the street to find Mr Colville 'kicking Lar Corbett's van'.
This is about as good a country court report as you'll ever read - even if Lar Corbett is only referred to as Lar Corbett, unlike all the other players in this story, who are referred to as Mr this or that. The highlight of the story is when Mr Colville is brought to the local police station and tells police he was "acting the fool, sorry acting the maggot." Lar was compensated by Mr Colville subsequent to the incident, though a Mr Brendan Murphy has yet to receive compensation for the two grand in damages incurred to his vehicle that evening, including a dented roof and a kicked-in side panel.
