Donegal are set to take on Tyrone this weekend as both counties begin their All-Ireland Senior Football Championship round-robin campaigns. Here’s everything you need to know about Donegal v Tyrone.
For Jim McGuinness’s side, they will be looking to keep up their momentum following a successful campaign in Ulster. In the quarter-finals, the Tír Chonaill impressed away to Derry in Celtic Park winning 4-11 to 0-17, before returning to the same ground to face Tyrone in the semi-final.
After a thrilling win in that fixture, Donegal faced Armagh in Clones for the Anglo-Celt Cup. In another tight game, a penalty shoot-out ultimately decided the winner, with Donegal goalie Shaun Patton being the hero after saving Shane McPartland’s penalty to win the shoot-out 6-5.

For Tyrone, they will be looking to bounce back following their loss to Donegal in the Ulster semi-final. In the quarter-final, the Red Hands defeated Cavan 1-23 to 3-16 after extra-time in Kingspan Breffini Park.
In their semi-final meeting in Celtic Park, a late Brendan McCole point tied up the game for Donegal 0-14 to 0-14 to send the match into extra time. With that momentum on their side, Donegal would ultimately defeat Tyrone 0-18 to 0-16 after 90 minutes of football, with a Paddy McBrearty point sealing the win.
The match comes in the wake of Tyrone joint-manager Fergal Logan announcing that he suffered a stroke at home while preparing for a league fixture with Derry back in February in an interview with BBC Northern Ireland.
