Putting it mildly, the Donegal county final wasn't exactly a classic. Kilcar defeated Naomh Conaill on a meagre scoreline of 0-07 to 0-04, in a game which stacked much of its drama in the first-half. Had you told punters that the 0-06 to 0-03 scoreline at half-time represented a kind of frenzied lapse into scoring and the apogee of entertainment, then they may not have stuck around for a second half that yielded the sum total of two points.

Nonetheless, Kilcar won, ending their 24-year wait for a Donegal county title. Paddy McBrearty - who kicked a relatively prolific three points, two of them from frees - captained Kilcar to this defining triumph, and was emotional afterward when reflecting on what he and his teammates had put the crowd through achieved.

"It's a big monkey off the back for us", McBrearty told Charlie Collins of Donegal Sports Hubwith his voice quivering with emotion, describing the victory as a "dream come true".

McBrearty admitted his fortune at already having a Celtic Cross in his back pocket, but ranked this triumph - as drab as it was - among it. The audio is below.
