Donal Óg Cusack reappeared on The Sunday Game today, and arrived as a man on a mission. Last month, he accentuated the differences between hurling and football punditry, namely the fact that analysis of the latter was often more negative than positive. Cusack has always maintained that hurling should do a better job to promote itself, and has always maintained that, as a pundit, he would endeavour to be positive about the sport.
This came to the fore in his analysis of today's All-Ireland semi final. He insisted that Anthony Nash's stunning save be shown at half-time, and after the game, he insisted that Derek McGrath's coaching and system be given its due.
Obviously not unaware of Davy Fitz's criticism of Henry Shefflin and Michael Duignan, Donal Óg criticised both football and hurling punditry on RTE's flagship sports show:
