Dingle GAA club confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Aodhán O'Connor, one of their young club members, has tragically passed away.
Aodhán suffered an injury while playing in an under-15 colleges game on Wednesday.
The club tweeted:
"Dingle GAA are truly saddened at the tragic loss of our young footballer Aodhán O'Connor. Aodhán will be deeply missed by his loving mom Áine, dad John, sister Ciara & all his teammates. Our thoughts & prayers are with Aodhán's family & friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."
Independent.ie reports that the 14-year-old was involved in an accidental clash of heads while playing for his school, Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, in a Russell Cup game against St. Brendan's College, Killarney.
The young player was treated on the pitch and then taken to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee. He was subsequently moved to Cork University Hospital.
Tributes to Aodhán have been led by Kerry GAA chairman Tim Murphy.
