Former Kilkenny hurler Eddie Brennan has taken Moycarkey Borris to their first Tipperary senior hurling semi-final since 1984.

Brennan took over the mid-Tipperary club at the beginning of 2023 and they've produced a huge shock in his second year in charge, taking down reigning champs Kiladangan.

Kiladangan were favourites to retain Dan Breen having won the north Tipperary championship before topping their group in the county.

There was nothing to suggest otherwise in the early exchanges on Saturday, as they led Moycarkey Borris by 2-13 to 0-11 at half-time of their quarter final clash.

But the beaten mid-finalists stunned the champions with a lightning start to the second half, scoring 1-3 without reply.

Kiladangan regained the momentum once more, to lead by seven with twelve minutes to go but unbelievably, they wouldn't score again.

Brennan's side shook up FBD Semple Stadium with a momentous rally, scoring five points without reply before Max Hackett well and truly ripped up the script with a goal in the third minute of injury-time.

Hackett has represented Tipperary underage teams in the past and is the team's talisman, and it was his goal that sealed Moycarkey's 2-21 to 3-16 victory.

Afterwards, an emotional Eddie Brennan hailed his side 'dying in their boots' for the cause.

"I'm fairly speechless to be honest. I don't think I've ever went as mad celebrating Tipperary hurling in my life.

"What can you say."

"We looked to be in trouble. In fairness to them, they keep responding, they've had setbacks but the one thing we try to drill into them is to keep believing and keep believing and stick at it," he told Tipp FM.

"Look at that second half, the evidence is there, they stuck at it. We got a bit of a break around the goal, but the squad, the players themselves (they were superb.)"

"If you're going to be champions, you have to beat the champions.

"There was a huge task in front of us, we were probably written off a little bit but that's sport.

"We came in here and said at half-time and we said the one thing we weren't going to do was walk out of here having not got stuck in.

"Effectively, just die in your boots, and that's what they done to a man."

Toomevara are also through to the semi-finals having beaten JK Brackens on Saturday while Thurles Sarsfields do battle with Nenagh today, with Kilruane MacDonaghs taking on Loughmore live on TG4.
