The video above is possibly my favourite speech (Coach Taylor aside) from any manager I've ever seen. If you've somehow never seen it before, it comes from the documentary Marooned - the story of how Ó Sé led Westmeath to their first and only Leinster title in 2004.
Dessie Dolan was of course part of that team and this week he joined Anthony Moyles and Niall Kelly on our GAA podcast, The Hard Shoulder, to chat about his time as a player and of the impact Ó Sé had on that Westmeath team.
Speaking about that great moment of television, Dolan told the lads:
The cameras weren't [just] brought in for Páidí's speeches. What you saw in Marooned was actually what happened. He did call out lads like that.
He just gave us a bit more edge than we had. He was mentally tough, he loved Croke Park. All he cared about was winning championship matches. He didn't care about the league, he didn't care about any sideshows.
Dolan discussed that while Westmeath had a talented team at that time, they were seen as mentally weak. It was Ó Sé who brought that bit of steal which would help them to the promised land; 'All he wanted was winning and winning matches in Croke Park. He didn't accept excuses.'
