The Brisbane Lions have confirmed that Deividas Uosis is one of three players to have been released by the club ahead of the AFL's trade and draft period.
Uosis, who won a minor All-Ireland with Kerry in 2017 as goalkeeper, signed a two-year rookie deal with Brisbane in 2020.
The Dingle clubman, who was born in Lithuania and moved to Kerry aged four, had impressed during the AFL's European combine in December 2019. He had the quickest 20m sprint of all participants, running 2.76 seconds, and had also fared well in the agility test.
The 22-year-old was one of three Kerry minor All-Ireland winners to have moved Down Under to play Aussie Rules. Mark O'Connor won a Premiership title with Geelong Cats at the weekend, while Stefan Okunbor - who had spent three years with the Cats - has since returned home to line out with the Kingdom.
Brisbane said that Uosis, "showed great commitment after moving to the other side of the world during the pandemic in a bid to play AFL football".
"It's an unfortunate time of year when changes must be made due to pressure for list spots," added Brisbane general manager.
"All three are extremely hard-working individuals who represented themselves with great professionalism and diligence during their time at the Club.
"We thank them for their service and wish them all the best for the future."
Today we sadly farewell Ely Smith, Mitch Cox & Deividas Uosis after they were informed they would not be offered a new contract.
Thank you for your contribution lads, we're excited to see what the next chapter holds ❤️
