The GAA have a problem on their hands when it comes to attendances in the Gaelic football championship this year.

There have been numerous high profile games in recent weeks that have seen much lower crowds than you would have expected in previous seasons. That is especially true in the All-Ireland round robin series, where the relative lack of jeopardy in many fixtures has seen quite a few fans stay away.

Of course, those organising the games often don't help themselves.

For example, the decision to hold Dublin's game against Roscommon last week in Croke Park was an absolute disaster. The crowd at GAA HQ was so low they they seemed to avoid reading out an official attendance for the game.

The lack of crowds at Dublin games in Croke Park in the 2024 championship has been startling, both in the All-Ireland and provincial competitions.

GAA: Dean Rock wants major Leinster Championship change for 2025

Dublin play every home championship game in Croke Park, while many of their 'neutral venue' games also take place at the ground. That is something that many feel needs to be changed as soon as possible.

Writing in the Irish Times, said that the Leinster Council have to move the provincial final out of Croke Park, starting in 2025.

I went through my intercounty career never playing a single championship match at Parnell Park...

The Leinster Council need to move the 2025 Leinster football final out of Croke Park. Irrespective of who is in the decider, the game would be a much better spectacle in Portlaoise or Tullamore or Navan. There’s no point waiting any longer, the time to move is now...

Let’s play provincial finals in provincial grounds.

And beyond that, I believe the GAA need to strongly consider playing some All-Ireland quarter-finals outside of Croke Park too.

This is a change that most GAA fans would get behind. Attending games in a half or quarter full stadium is not en enjoyable experience for anyone involved.

The insistence on using Croke Park so often for game that will never draw a big crowd has been a baffling trend in recent years. Something has to be done about it moving forward.
