News broke during the week that Donal Óg Cusack is leaving the theory of The Sunday Game studio behind for practical application on the pitch with Clare.
On RTÉ's The Ray D'Arcy Show, Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald spoke about the appointment of Cusack to his backroom team.
Fitzgerald said that once Clare had been knocked out of the Championship back in July, his thoughts immediately turned to what he could change for the 2016 campaign.
As soon as you're beaten, the next two or three weeks, you're thinking 'What can you do differently?' We won an All-Ireland two years ago and the last year or two's been really tough. You're thinking 'What can I do to change it up?' I suppose it's my job as manager to put the best backroom staff that I can together and maybe change things up a small bit.
You draw up a list in your head. I'll be honest, he was nearly top of the list. I've watched him analysing stuff on The Sunday Game and he's really good. So what the hell, I said I'd pick up the phone and ring him.
We met up and we had an incredible chat. It took off from there.
Fitzgerald - responding to Ray D'Arcy's assertion that having two egos such as his and Cusack's working together could lead to tension - joked that 'It's going to be war'.
He also said that the former Cork keeper's experience is going to be a major influence next season.
I think Donal will add to it. He thinks things out. I think when he talks - the big things is, he's been there, he's done it. He has a serious vision of what he wants to do. I think when he talks, the lads will listen and that's a big part of it.
