"I love meeting you, Micheál, it means we're doing something right," declared Davy Burke on TG4 at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening.
Burke, the Kildare U20 manager, had just seen his side defeat Kerry in the EirGrid All-Ireland football semi-final. Mayo now await in the final on August 5th at Croke Park after they beat Derry.
It was a deserved victory for Kildare. Though, one which only came by a single point after Kildare let slip a seven-point second half lead to Jack O'Connor's side.
"We're just rolling," said a euphoric Burke.
"The work we're doing midweek is brilliant. Last Thursday night was phenomenal. 35 minutes exactly on the pitch and I had to blow it. They wanted more but I was just so happy with it. The effort, everything we asked for was just 100 per cent every night.
"We had our homework done. We like to do our work during the week and we have the quality there. I'm just delighted with them.
"Our style might be loud, it might be aggressive, it might be full-on but it works at times. These lads really bought into me from Day One and bought into Ev and Deco too. Every night they just turn up and train and tackle and are so honest."
