David Clifford’s 2022 just keeps getting better as he scored an incredible 2-12 to help his club Fossa to a 4-12 to 0-22 victory over Listry in the Kerry Junior Premier football final.
The Kerry forward has now won a Division one title, Munster senior football championship, an All-Ireland title with Kerry, senior Kerry championship with East Kerry and now a Junior Premier title with Fossa.
In a game that had a number of his teammates from East Kerry and Kerry both playing with and against him, the footballer of the year once again delivered on the biggest stage to guide his side to victory in a thrilling final.
In a quick start to the game, it was Fossa who opened up a 1-2 to 0-2 lead after ten minutes, when Tadhg O’Shea scoring the opening goal of the game.
While Listry were playing the better football in the first half, it was the points of David Clifford that kept the scoreboard ticking for Fossa as they took a 1-7 to 0-8 lead at half time.
David Clifford: goat level
Listry came out firing at the interval and scored three points in the first three minutes of the second half to take the lead, with Ronan Buckley putting in a hugely impressive performance.
For the first time in the game, Listry were turning their good play into scores and had a four point lead at one stage as they looked certain to claim victory in the final.
However, Fossa were handed a lifeline when David Clifford’s shot dropped short and was fisted into the net by his brother Paudie to draw level.
In a thrilling end to normal time, Listry must have thought they had victory when Micheál Keane put them ahead in the 61st minute, but David Clifford once again came to the rescue with a brilliant point to bring the game to extra time.
