There were just 15 minutes remaining and Dublin up a point when Jim Gavin sprung Cormac Costello off the bench on Saturday evening. Less than five minutes late, Costello had increased the gap to three. He would add a further score in a vital super sub performance which aided Dublin's victory.
For many of the Dublin players who walked the steps of the Hogan Stand, it was their third or fourth time doing so. For Costello, at the age of just 22, it was the former.
You get the sense that there's a real bond which has developed within this Dublin panel as they have achieved success. That bond and the camaraderie within the panel are vieweable in a short video which Philly McMahon posted online on Sunday afternoon not long before Dublin's homecoming in Smithfield square.
Cormac Costello's father is Dublin chief executive John Costello. In an improvised sketch, McMahon interviewed Costello about subjects such as forcing Jim Gavin to play his son and what the hell has happened to the Ballymun player's expenses.
