Just a month after Peadar Healy stepped down as manager of the Cork senior footballers, a successor has been named.
Cork GAA announced on Thursday afternoon that Ronan McCarthy has been appointed on a three-year term.
McCarthy, from Douglas, previously worked as a selector under both Conor Counihan and Brian Cuthbert. Last year, he managed Carbery Rangers to win their first ever Cork SFC title.
McCarthy played both minor and senior football for Cork winning two Munster titles and a league title. He also played corner back in the Cork team which lost the 1999 All-Ireland final against Meath.
County chairman Ger Lane said McCarthy was an 'ideal choice'.
The experience Ronan has at club and county level made him an ideal choice for this demanding role. He has been immersed in club and county football since his playing days ended and is well qualified to take this position. On behalf of everyone associated with Cork GAA, I would like to wish Ronan every success in his new role, and we all look forward to a successful period ahead.
