With a new management team in place, starting jerseys are certainly up for grabs in the Cork senior hurling panel.

The Rebels boast a vast wealth of attacking riches, and the competition is fierce.

Seamus Harnedy, Patrick Horgan, Alan Connolly and the injured Robbie O'Flynn were just some of the forwards not involved in Salthill on Sunday afternoon, yet the Lee-siders still managed to post a tally of 4-24 against Henry Shefflin's charges.

The star of the show was Conor Lehane, chipping in with 2-3 from play.

The Midleton man, who was dropped from the Rebels' panel entirely in 2021, gave quite the display.

Lehane's two goals were typical of this Cork team at their best.

His first goal came in the ninth minute. Declan Dalton flicked the sliotar into his path. Lehane sprinted onto the ball and displayed quick hands to get the strike away and bury it into the Galway net.

For his second green flag of the day, he collected possession on the Galway 45, before storming unimpeded to the 21. His shot came early, perhaps taking Darach Fahy by surprise, and the score gave Cork what proved to be an unassailable six-point lead.

With wins over Limerick and Galway now in the books, Pat Ryan's side have made an impressive start to the Allianz Hurling League as they seek their first title since 1998.

They are the only remaining unbeaten side in Division 1A after two rounds of action, as they now prepare for the visit of Westmeath to Páirc Uí Chaoimh in two weeks' time.

Elsewhere in the group, Wexford saw off Westmeath in Mullingar, while Limerick were too strong for an under-par Clare in the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Saturday night.
