Kerry GAA is in mourning today with the news that Ellen Clifford, the mother of David and Paudie, passed away after her battle with illness with yesterday.
Ellen came from a fantastic GAA family, hailing from Ballymacelligott just outside of Tralee. Her husband Dermot is also heavily involved in local club Fossa, with her two sons starring at both club and inter-county level in recent years. She could often be seen on the sideline cheering them on during the numerous big occasions in which they have featured in recent years, alongside her husband and daughter Shelly.
Kerry are set to play Clare in the Munster final later today, with Colm Cooper sending a few kind words to the Clifford family ahead of the game.
Speaking on RTÉ, he paid tribute to Ellen and her family.
It's very sad. It's very sad for Paudie, for David, for Shelly, and of course her husband Dermot. Ellen was a fantastic Ballymacelligott lady, the whole family is steeped in GAA.
It has been a tough couple of months for them. Only a couple of months ago, she was above watching Fossa winning the junior All-Ireland title with the family. They are wonderful moments.
There is huge sadness around. It's going to be tough for the boys, because you've only got one mother. It'll be a tough day for everyone in Kerry, but especially those two boys and the family.
Our thoughts are certainly with them.
A nice tribute.
