Mike Solan has informed Mayo GAA that he is withdrawing his name from the list in contention for the Mayo senior Gaelic football manager role.
Solan released a brief statement via Mayo GAA today confirming the news.
Today, I have informed the Mayo County Board that I am withdrawing my name from the nomination process for the Mayo Senior Football Team Manager. I would like to thank everyone who helped me in this process and I would like to wish the Mayo Senior team every success in 2019 and beyond.
Solan guided Mayo to All-Ireland U21 football glory in 2016 and has experience of the club game with Ballaghaderreen. He took over from Niall Heffernan as U21 boss in 2015 and has worked with several senior squad members in the past.
The news leaves the door open for James Horan to return to the position. It was confirmed last week that Horan has been nominated for the job by at least one club. Mayo GAA have confirmed they will now meet with Horan to discuss the role.
