Reports: Kerry Star Set To Head To Australia Amid Rumoured AFL Interest

There have been rumours that a disappointing week for Kerry could be about to get a whole lot worse, with it being suggested that one of their most talented young players could be about to accept an offer from the AFL.

Jack O'Connor's side exited the championship over the weekend, coming up short in their All-Ireland semi-final against Armagh. Some questions have been asked about the side's attacking structure in the aftermath of that game, with many feeling that The Kingdom are not making the most of the wealth of forward talent at their disposal.

That issue would not be eased by rumours of a potential departure from the panel in 2025, although there have been conflicting reports about a potential move to Australia.

Different reports circulate about Kerry star's potential AFL move

Rumours have circulated over the last 24 hours that Kerry's Cillian Burke could be about to make his way to the AFL.

The Irish Examiner reported yesterday that Geelong 'have tabled a two-year contract' for Burke's services, the side who also have fellow Kerry native Mark O'Connor as well as Mayo's Oisin Mullin on the books.

However, today's Kerryman have insisted that the Milltown-Castlemaine club man will not be moving to the AFL.

They have suggested that while Burke has informed Kerry and his club that he intends to go to Australia later this year, this will simply be to spend some time travelling and that he has no intention of signing a contract to move to Aussie Rules.

While he would miss some of Kerry's 2025 campaign as a result, it is thought that he will return to Ireland in May of next year. Clearly, GAA figures within the county are keen to see him return to the panel at some point next season.

The Sun have also reported that Burke has opted against a move to Aussie Rules at this point.

It remains to be seen whether he will reconsider the offer from the AFL at a future date.

Cillian Burke became an increasingly important part of the Kerry panel as the year went, producing some big performances over the course of the championship. The 22-year old looks likely to be a big part of the team's future, meaning they will be relieved that he has reportedly opted against taking a potential offer from the AFL.
