Dublin's Ciaran Kilkenny has been named as man-of-the-match in today's All-Ireland final, with his county making history by claiming a fifth consecutive Sam Maguire.
It was a classic Dublin performance, despite the stern challenge of Kerry. They squeezed the opposition out of the game towards the end, holding on to the ball and shifting Kerry out of position. With 10 minutes in the game remaining there was a sense of inevitability about the result.
Much of that was down to Kilkenny. He was immense throughout, kicking some fantastic scores in the first half. He also was the conductor of the orchestra that was the Dublin attack, ultimately finishing the game with a personal tally of 0-4.
He has now been rewarded for his performance.
Kilkenny was named as man-of-the-match on the Sunday Game tonight. The 26-year old beat out competition from team mates Michael Fitzsimons and Con O'Callaghan, who were also nominated for the gong.
It caps off what has been a cracking year for Kilkenny. He has been a standout player on perhaps the greatest team of all time, and he is their key man in attack. While others might outscore him, he is the one that makes their forward line tick.
He will no doubt be in the conversation for Player of the Year, although Jack McCaffrey will be the favourite for that one.
