While the glare of the spotlight was trained on Offaly/Galway yesterday evening, the sun spread itself more evenly and provided a perfect setting for the lower reaches of the hurling championship. As Antrim staved off the challenge of Carlow in the McDonagh Cup, there was a round of action in the other competitions, and here are the Christy Ring Cup results.
There were comfortable wins for Down and Kildare over Armagh and Roscommon respectively, while London edged a tight game with Derry by two points.
Elsewhere in the same competition, Wicklow beat Mayo, winning on a scoreline of 1-20 to 2-11. That game featured a sensational point by Wicklow's Garry Byrne - catching a skidding, shuddering ball on the half-volley to thwack it over the bar.
