Ireland have made a positive start in their bid to retain the Cormac McAnallen trophy, rattling Australia with two goals in a minute to earn to lead the series on aggregate at half-time. Among those goalscorers was Mayo's Chris Barrett, who tucked home Ireland's second goal:

Barrett was taken off just before half-time, however, as he suffered the effects of this bone-shuddering hit by Aussie Joel Selwood. It was high, and it was late, and Selwood made way too, given a black card.

That incident led to tempers fraying as the teams made their way off the field at half-time.
