Further controversy surrounds the Longford senior football championship following Carrickedmond's decision not to fulfil their relegation semi-final fixture.

The Longford senior football championship has been in disarray ever since Carrickedmond's final round gramp game against St Columba's, Mullinalaghta.

The game was initially deemed a draw only for the result to be over-turned in favour of Mullinalaghta, as footage showed they had actually won by a point.

A draw would have seen Carrickedmond through to the quarter finals but a loss sent them into the relegation semi-finals, with Dromard advancing in their place.

It also changed the complexion of the entire quarter final draw and effectively, had an impact on the entire championship.

The Longford CCC awarded the win to Mullinalaghta following a unanimous decision only for Carrickedmond to respond with a counter-appeal to the Leinster GAA hearings committee.

Their appeal was successful with the Leinster hearings committee deferring the matter to the Longford CCC on Saturday morning.

In the mean-time, Longford GAA made decision to plough on with their quarter finals and relegation semi-finals this weekend, with Carrickedmond responding by refusing to play their relegation semi-final against Longford Slashers.

'Carrickedmond GAA has made the decision not to fulfil our fixture V Longford Slashers on the grounds of the Leinster Hearings Committee upholding our appeal today against the decision of Longford CCC,' they said in a statement.

LHC have requested a new hearing take place with Longford CCC as part of their decision. As a result of this decision it is our opinion that our fixture vs Longford Slashers is invalid.

Our request to postpone the games in light of the decision was rejected by Longford CCC.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support over the last 2 weeks.'

Where does the competition go from here? Title holders Killoe Young Emmetts and Colmcille won Saturday's quarter finals with the remaining two due to take place on Sunday.
