The entire point of the GAA is the fact that every Sunday marks the most important day in somebody's year, and should you stumble on the right occasion, there are fewer experiences better than following it on local radio. Many have a kind of underlying defiant growl, as they talk in great, excited clots of words.

Carlow's win over Wexford was one of the most heartening aspects of the GAA weekend; their first in the Leinster Championship in six years.

Brendan Hennessey was calling the game for KCLR Radio yesterday afternoon, and typified all the best aspects of local radio commentary: jubilant, little regard for the thing they call balance, a willingness to interrupt the co-commentator, and ultimately, utter, heartening delight.
