Hurling day and night, that's how Cork are going to get back their title as the kings of the game.
And that's what Carrigtwohill Juvenile GAA Club in Cork will be doing this weekend to raise funds for Pieta House and increase mental health awareness.
Camán till Dawn is an overnight 'puckathon' which involves continuous pucking of the sliotar, which will begin at dusk (9:45pm on 4th June) and continue on until dawn (5.17am on the 5th June).
David Sullivan, the PRO from Carraig Óg said that the idea for the puckathon came together this winter, with Carringtwohill have tragically lost three members to suicide during the last three years.
A staff member of Pieta House said something in conversation that resonated with me. It was along the lines of the fact that there would be no Pieta House without a strong community. It is community run and funded by the same community it serves and strives to help. In that regard, Pieta House and the GAA are a good fit. The same core ethos - of being community based, focused and run, with the net benefit accruing to the community - runs through the heart of each organisation.
It's a brilliant cause and really amazing to see a rural GAA club taking a proactive approach to this issue.
Several well known-faces have been supporting this brilliant event all week. You should do the same, if you can.
You can follow the event on the Camán till Dawn Facebook Page or make a donation here. All proceeds are going to the Cork branch of Pieta House. Well done Carrigtwohill for raising awareness for such a good cause and ádh mór oraibh!
