Brian Cody has lashed into Barry Kelly over his decision to award a last minute free to Tipperary at the end of the drawn game.

Cody described the call, when Brian Hogan was adjudged to have charged into Padraic Maher, as 'criminal.'

They were handed an opportunity which was a completely wrong decision. We didn't speak about it the last day but it was criminal what was done the last day. And people can say I am whinging and moaning all they like but I am telling the truth.

The Kilkenny manager contended that it should have been a free to Kilkenny, but said he wouldn't have objected had Kelly waved play on.

If he had said play on I would have said fair enough. I would say maybe it might be a free for us but I wouldn’t have worried about it. If the ball broke and they put it over the bar I would say fair enough, but you don’t hand a team a free puck and say “lads, there you go”. It was like that. It is the truth, it is the truth.

Cody kept his counsel after the drawn game, and waited until the All-Ireland was safely won to make his feelings known. This is common practice for Cody. In 2007, Ger Loughnane referred to Kilkenny's supposed over-aggression and dangerous play before the All-Ireland quarter-final with Galway.

Cody said nothing until they had defeated Limerick in the All-Ireland final and then opted to respond to that 'lunatic from Clare talking rubbish at the moment.'
