Kerry goalkeeper Brendan Kealy has quit the Kingdom's senior football panel, at least for the immediate future.
Murt Murphy reports in today's Irish Daily Star that the 31-year-old met with Eamonn Fitzmaurice and expressed disappointment regarding playing time in this season's Championship. However, a return at some time in the future has not been ruled out.
Fitzmaurice has operated a rotation policy during his term as Kerry manager, using both Kealy and Legion goalkeeper Brian Kelly.
It was Kelly who was in goal for the Munster semi-final against Clare and Kerry's Munster final win against Cork. Though, it was Kealy who wore the number one jersey when Kerry won the National League final against in April.
Considering how Fitzmaurice has dealt with his goalkeepers previously, it seems strange that Kealy would decide to quit just two games into the Championship.
The Kilcummin man made his inter-county debut in 2010 but was on the bench as he won his only All-Ireland medal when Kerry beat Donegal in the 2014 All-Ireland decider.
