News reaches us this morning that Meathman David Gough will referee his first All-Ireland final when Dublin play Kerry on September 1.
Gough has been the outstanding referee in gaelic football in 2019 but there has been consternation from various corners of Kerry GAA because Gough lives and works in Dublin. The GAA ignored the social media furore and decided to appoint Gough for the role.
Cahair O'Kane of the Irish News broke the story.

This is a small footnote but Gough will also become the first openly-gay man to referee an All-Ireland final.
