Wexford were left enraged after the ending to their 0-18 to 0-18 draw at home to Laois in the oniells.com Leinster U20 Hurling Championship in Chadwicks Wexford Park.
It was a tight game throughout as neither side were able to get a commanding lead. While Wexford scored a majority of points from play, Laois scored 16 points from placed balls with Ben Deegan scoring a free with just a minute left to bring the sides level.
With over 2 minutes into injury time Wexford were awarded a free kick in their own half and they launched it up to Simon Roche, who scored 9 points already at that point. Roche was able to turn his defender and get a good look to score what would've been the game-winning point.
However before Roche was able to pull the trigger, Dublin referee Mark Ryan blew the whistle for full time, with the game ending 0-18 apiece.
The referee was subsequently surrounded by the Wexford players and management as he walked off the field, asking for an explanation for the decision.

Wexford 0-18
Laois 0-18
FULL TIMEReferee blows the whistle just as Simon Roche is about to shoot from a scoreable position for what would have been a winning score. We don’t normally comment on refs, but that’s the most…

The result didn't affect Wexford too much as they were still able to qualify for the U20 Leinster Hurling Championship quarterfinals, having finished second in the group stages behind Kilkenny while Laois will have to play in the quarterfinal preliminary round.
