"Oh the black and red of Mayo..."

It doesn't have the same ring, does it?

Mayo's alternate kit got an airing in the Allianz League in the Spring. While Kerry are wearing their more traditional navy second kit today, it's the Connacht side who have moved from tradition.

While the GAA thrives in its tradition, Mayo's move to a predominantly black kit, seems to have come with near-universal acclaim.

In the early-2000s, Sligo shocked Kildare in a Football Qualifier in Croke Park wearing an all-black kit. Such was the success of that result (and defeating Tyrone in the following year in black), Sligo have stuck with their all-black kit ever since.

While Mayo will return to the green and red at the first available opportunity, if they beat Kerry it could become the Westerner's lucky charm.
