Armagh legend Diarmuid Marsden has slammed the decision to omit Stefan Campbell from the All-Star nominations this year.

The Armagh hero played a vital role this season in helping his county win their second ever All-Ireland title, and although much of his impact came from the bench, he arguably had more influence than any other player in the squad.

In both the All-Ireland semi-final and final, Campbell was unleashed and had almost an immediate impact, scoring two brilliant points in the semis, and setting up the vital goal in the decider.

However, the Clan na Gael star did not get a nomination for the All-Stars that take place this Friday, and it has sparked outrage from several quarters.

Speaking on The Puke Football Podcast Marsden didn't bite his tongue when asked if Campbell should have been nominated.

I think the county was shocked he didn't get a nomination.

"It maybe was a stretch to say he deserves an All-Star but he was definitely in the top 45 footballers this year, the influence he had was second to none.

"He started quite a few games in the Ulster championship and every time he came on as a sub he did make an impact."I honestly cannot understand how the selectors overlooked him for a nomination.

"In fact it is a travesty, I thought it was a guarantee that he would get a nomination and rightly so.

"It was a joke that he didn't get a nomination, let's be honest, it was an absolute joke, and he won't say that, but I can certainly say it."

For those who might accuse Marsden of being biased as a fellow club and county man, he wasn't the only one that was shocked by the omission.

Kerry hero and 2014 Player of the Year James O'Donoghue immediately took to Twitter when the nomination list came out, and blasted the decision to leave out Campbell.

Stefan Campbell - one of the most influential players on an all Ireland winning team. No all star nomination  also one of the best to watch and most skilful.

"Games gone."

Although Campbell won't feature in the All-Star team, it is widely suspected that most of the winners will helm from Armagh after their All-Ireland winning season.
