By the time Anthony Nash eventually retires, hurling will be unrecognisable from the sport it is today.
Having already forced a rule change in free taking, thanks to his monster pick-ups, which saw him gain about 40 yards when firing his ferocious frees goalwards, Nash has finally got the administrators thinking about hurley sizes.
Galway are putting a motion to Congress proposing to outlaw the use of goalkeeper's hurleys for frees. The motion was originally proposed by the Clarinbridge club, according to Declan Rooney in the Irish Examiner.
Clarinbridge delegate Donal Walsh says this motion will also settle the issue of players (Nash) gaining yards with giant pick-ups, as it is much easier to do this with a goalie's hurley because there's "greater margin for error" with the bigger boss.
It's an issue that's been raised before, but Nash's jet-fueled strikes looked to have provided the momentum behind the latest attempt to regulate.
A sensible enough proposal but expect overly long puck-outs and double-saves to be outlawed next year.
