Last weekend saw the greatest scandal in Irish life since the revelations of the Moriarty Tribunal when Martin Carney awarded the Man of the Match award for the Munster Final replay to James O'Donoghue.

Cue a spate of jokes, even from RTE colleagues, and Martin was even forced to clear the air later on the week - where he boldly stood over his decision.

Well, for the second week in a row, a Man of the Match selection has prompted eyebrows to rise sky-high.

Fermanagh cruised to victory over Westmeath yesterday, ensuring that they will be playing in August and fulfilling Pete McGrath's bold promise in the wake of the Ulster semi-final defeat to Monaghan.

Westmeath played the game like a losing provincial finalist who were already sitting pretty in bonus territory.

With the game petering out, Sky's on-duty co-commentator Darragh O'Se opted to give Man of the Match to Ryan Jones.

It could have been anyone but the surprise that engulfed the decision essentially sounded like 'Not Tomas Corrigan?' Corrgian kicked 1-8, including a delightfully clever lobbed goal. In O'Se's defence, many argued that the bulk of Corrigan's kicks came from frees. Either way, it seemed like an odd call.
