You may remember that we featured a video a couple of months ago about Aidan O'Mahony giving a young Kerry fan his All Ireland winning boots after this year's final. Well, O'Mahony has literally gone the extra mile by flying to London to help auction off his clogs for charity; fetching a comely sum of €28,000.
O'Mahony had given his boots to Diarmuid De Bhillis, who attends a school called 'Home from Home' which helps children with special needs in Killarney. As reported in the Irish Independent, Diarmuid's parents later got in contact with the Kerry star to see if it would be OK if they sold his boots to raise money for the school.
Rather than merely give his blessing, O'Mahony offered to take the boots himself to London to sell them at the annual Kerry Association dinner. Imagine the delight for Diarmuid's family and his school when they later learned the boots had fetched almost €30k!
Here's Diarmuid's sister Caoimhe, who had left a special word of thanks for O'Mahony on our Facebook page back when he gave the youngster his boots.
