A meeting of the GAA’s Ard Chomhairle in Croke Park today decided to not continue with the restricted hand pass experimental rule in the upcoming Allianz Leagues. The other four experimental trial rules were approved.

The five experimental rules were applied in the pre-season competitions. Today they were discussed and analysed. The sin bin, the advanced mark, the 20-metre line kick out and the forward sideline kick will all apply to the Allianz League, which begins next weekend.

These trial rules will not apply to the 2019 Championship.

The controversial handpass rule has been hit with criticism from players, managers and the media alike.

A further review of the four remaining rules will take place later in the year. Any rules that are proposed for permanent introduction from 2020 onwards will need to be approved by special congress later this year.

The league kicks off next weekend with Mayo v Roscommon on Saturday night, live on Eir Sport 2.
