The Ladies HEC O'Connor Cup final between University of Limerick and Dublin City University finished on a knife-edge today.
While the Dublin side would sneak victory with a 2-12 to 0-17 scoreline, so much credit will be due to their captain, Aishling Moloney.
With her side trailing, the Tipperary woman was forced to look on from the sideline with time running out. Having been sin-binned, Moloney primed herself to rectify thing as soon as she was allowed re-take the field.
And rectify things she did.
Returning to the field looking determined to drag DCU back into contention, Moloney moves with a DCU attack and picks the ball up as her side are bearing down on goal.
Laying off a pass to her left, the recipient of the ball was duly fouled - penalty for DCU.
Although Moloney had initially intended to take it, she left the job to the 'soccer player' Sarah Rowe who duly finished it off.
With only a short time remaining, DCU rallied and claimed the O'Connor Cup with only a point to spare. Incredible scenes, you can watch the footage below.
Thanks to the incredible camera-work of Jerome Quinn, and a run-through of the event from Moloney herself, this makes for an incredibly dramatic scene.
A virtuoso performance from the DCU captain, she followed in the footsteps of Aidan O'Shea and Cian Lynch today in making sure she celebrated the victory with her mother for the day that was in it.
