There was significant commercial news for the GAA today with the announcement that AIB have reached an agreement with the association to remain as a title sponsor of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship until 2023.
The five year deal will build on the initial three year partnership when AIB took over as a sponsor of the Football Championship for the first time in 2015.
The bank, which through its long time association with the All-Ireland Club Championships, created #TheToughest series, have gained awards and plaudits for their dynamic sponsorship of GAA over the last number of years, from the series The Toughest Trade to last year's "Jeff and Kammy's Journey To Croker".
The new extension of the deal also covers AIB's sponsorship of the All-Ireland Club Championships for both football and hurling.
Incredibly, by the end of the deal, it will mean AIB have been continuously involved of sponsorship of GAA competitions for 32 years, having first become title sponsor of the Club Championships in the 1991/92 season.
GAA president John Horan welcomed the announcement.
We are delighted to partner with AIB for a further 5 years across both Club and County. As one of the GAA’s longest continuous sponsors, AIB have demonstrated real commitment and support for Gaelic Games. This has been enhanced by the significant promotion they have provided the GAA with through the activation of their sponsorship, even succeeding in bringing GAA to an international audience be it through the live streaming of Club Championship fixtures or introducing globally recognised figures to GAA.
We work really well with AIB, share an understanding of the importance of Gaelic Games to Irish community life and are delighted that they have committed to the GAA for a further 5 years.
