During Waterford's agonising defeat to Kilkenny in the All-Ireland semi-final, you got the feeling that if Derek McGrath had said to Dan Shanahan on the sideline 'Dan, I'm putting you in', he would have had a hurley and helmet in the dugout ready to go. He already had the boots and shorts on and the wrists taped up.
Since his appointment as selector, Shanahan has been an animated figure on the sideline for the Deise.
One thing we really want to know is what happened between last year's All-Ireland semi-final defeat and this year's League that saw Dan make the transition from the orthodox style of wearing a baseball cap to having it turned backwards.

League over, Championship underway. The now trademark cap would be added later.
The cap made its debut the following summer.
Though it didn't always stay where it's meant to be.
In the middle of the action.
May 2016, the cap goes backwards.
And stayed that way.
A yellow bib - which, suspiciously, makes it look like he's wearing Clare gear - makes an appearance on the sideline, against Clare.
He's just so expressive.
