There were some ugly scenes in the Kerry hurling final between Kilmoyley and Lixnaw, which culminated with a spectator invading the pitch with a hurl and allegedly hitting former Kerry footballer Paul Galvin on the back of the helmet while he was talking to the referee.
As the teams re-emerged for the start of the second half, there was an incident off the ball that led to a melee breaking out. While many didn't see what happened to cause the incident, reporters on Radio Kerry confirmed there was one player on the ground and in the aftermath there was 'certainly a striking action by somebody who wasn't a player on a player.'
The man was then taken away by Gardaí before Galvin was booked for whatever his part in the fraca beforehand.
After things calmed down, the match resumed and finished in a draw with Galvin putting in what was described on Radio Kerry as a man of the match performance.
