It was another disappointing year for Wicklow in the Allianz Football League. The Garden County finished second from bottom of Division 4 and were only saved from the ignominy of being the league's basement side by having a slightly better points difference than London.
However, they did lose to the exiles in their final game of the campaign at the weekend, going down 0-12 to 2-8. Wicklow manager Johnny Magee spoke to the Wicklow People about the loss and the campaign in general. The former Dublin footballer produced an absolute gem of a quote when responding to questions about criticism on social media.
An exasperated Magee referenced Harry Potter and his own inability to conjure up items like the Richard Harris and Michael Gambon character, Dumbledore.
I’m not bleeding Dumbledore, I can’t wave a magic wand and produce a footballer out of nothing and replace experienced soldiers for Wicklow who left their hearts out on the field. You can’t just produce players like that.
