Last night was a busy night in the Eirgrid U21 Football Championship. Here's the tale of the tape from around the provinces.
Leinster
Dublin 2-15 Longford 3-7
Kildare 2-15 Meath 0-13
There was almost a huge upset in the tie of the round between Dublin and Longford but for a superb last ten minutes from the reigning All Ireland champions. Longford were given absolutely no chance going into the game but a goal in the first minute gave the midlands side great hope and they continued to push Dublin to the pin of their collar.
However Dublin showed their class by kicking six unanswered points towards the end of the game, to safely book their place in the Leinster final.
Their opponents will be Kildare after the Lily Whites saw off the challenge of Meath fairly comfortably, leading for the majority of the match, thanks in particular to the eight points from Ruairí Ó Coileáin and an early second half goal from Neil Flynn.
Ulster
Donegal 1-7 Cavan 0-9
Monaghan 0-15 Derry 1-8
Tyrone 0-17 Fermanagh 0-7
Cavan's bid for five Ulster titles in a row came to an end dramatically, after Donegal senior star Ryan McHugh scored a winning goal 3 minutes and 10 seconds into injury time.
After the first quarter of the match it seemed Donegal were justifying their favourites tag, leading 0-5 to 0-1, but the Breffni county rallied to hit six points on the trot either side of the half time whistle. Fast forward to mere seconds from the end of the tie and they would still lead by two but alas, McHugh - who had earlier missed a penalty - would turn hero for the home side.
Elsewhere, a strong second half performance from Monaghan was enough to see off 13 man Derry, while Fermanagh proved little opposition to provincial favourites Tyrone. The fourth quarter final, between Antrim and Armagh, was postponed due to a flood light failure.
Munster
Cork 1-12 Kerry 1-9
Tipperary 0-15 Clare 0-7
It's now seven years since Kerry last won a Munster U21 Championship and they will have to wait at least another 12 months, after losing to rivals Cork last night.
The hotly contested tie was level with ten minutes to go but the Rebels emerged victorious thanks to points from Brian O'Driscoll, Sean White, and two from Conor Horgan.
In the other semi-final, Tipperary enjoyed a comfortable win over Clare, with four late points ensuring granting them an eight point victory.
Connacht
Roscommon 6-18 Sligo 0-12
Poor Sligo didn't come within an asses roar of beating Roscommon in last night's Connacht semi-final. A first half hat-trick from Enda Smith, as well as goals from Diarmuid Murtagh and Paul Kenny gave The Rossies to a 5-4 to 0-4 lead at the break. While Sligo regrouped and battled valiantly, it would never be enough to reel in an unassailable lead.
Mayo play Galway in the second semi-final this Saturday.
