UL to face DCU in Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup final
In Tuesday night's first game, DCU went in at half-time one point down to UCC, before producing a brilliant second-half turnaround.
Having drawn level, they took the lead after 44 minutes thanks to a superb finish from midfielder Donal Shirley of Brosna Gaels in Offaly after a lightning fast DCU break.
From there, the Dublin college edged further ahead, ultimately running out 1-20 to 1-16 winners to reach their first Fitzgibbon Cup final in seven years.
DCU are one of the few colleges to have reached the decider and never won it, and they will have a chance to end that record against the same opposition who beat them in the 2018 final.
The second semi-final on Tuesday night pitted UL against MTU Cork in Mallow.
Any hope of a contest took an unfortunate hit in the early stages, with two first-half red cards for the Cork side giving them a serious mountain to climb.
MTU Cork put up an admirable fight right up until the 40th minute, at which stage UL stretched their legs and pushed on. A goal from Clonlara's Colm O'Meara put nine points between the teams and, ultimately, the margin ended up at 21 on an unfortunate night for MTU Cork.
After their 1-28 to 0-10 victory in Mallow, UL have a chance to atone for last season's defeat in the Fitzgibbon Cup final.
Last year saw them come up short against Mary I but, ominously, they were champions in the previous two seasons.
The Electric Ireland Fitzgibbon Cup final will take place at the Connacht GAA Centre on Saturday afternoon, with throw-in at 2:45pm.
