The 2018 GAA fixtures list has been released and as expected, there have been some major deviations from what we now call tradition. The structures have been changed for both football and hurling - the former with the implementation of the Super 8s at quarter-final stage; the latter utterly.
2018 GAA fixtures list
Among the headline changes is the fact that the Munster football final will take place on a Saturday evening (June 23rd), the same day as a round of football qualifiers, and the Ring, Rackard, and Meagher hurling finals. The Ulster and Leinster football finals are fixed for the following day.
Elsewhere, the Munster and Leinster hurling finals are slated for the same day: Sunday, July 1st. Also taking place on the same day is the final of the Tier 2 hurling final.
The football Super 8s will be staged across four weeks, with a seven-day break between the end of the quarter-finals and the semi-finals.
Both the All-Ireland hurling and football semi-finals are to be staged on a Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend: July 28th/29th in the case of hurling, and August 11th/12th in football.
The All-Ireland hurling final will take place on Sunday, August 19th. The football final is slated for September 2nd, meaning it will assume the tradition associated with the first Sunday of September.
